advent season

Hey guys,

Merry Christmas! I hope you all have a safe and merry Christmas this week! Today we are talking about a fun topic, advent season! Before we begin make sure you are following us on Instagram for the latest updates, fun announcements, and silly photos. If you need prayer, hop on over to the prayer tab, we would love to pray for you! Make sure you listen to our latest episode for some more insight on advent season! Now let’s dive into what advent season is.

According to Google, advent is the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. Christians are celebrating the arrival of Christ coming into the world, born of a virgin in a manger. If you want to read the full Christmas story, go to Luke 1-2. As Christians celebrate Jesus’ arrival, we look forward to Christ’s second return. The world is a dark, evil place because of sin. Because of this, oftentimes we can feel hopeless inside. Advent season is about posturing our hearts to be reminded of Christ’s humble first coming into the world and renew our hope that God will fulfill all of His promises. We can look to the Israelites as an example of how we should patiently wait on the Lord. There is around a 400-year time gap between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament. This time was a time of waiting for the Israelites. They trusted that God would fulfill His promise and it would be in His time. We can hold on to the same truth, that God is not slow, that His timing is perfect and He wants what is best for us. I really encourage you to listen to the podcast this week as we dive much deeper.

I hope that in this Christmas season you can be reminded of the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. I pray that you are also reminded of the best gift you could ever receive, the free gift of salvation and eternal life in Christ Jesus. If you do not know what I am talking about, or you want to learn more, please reach out to us at ourheartssurrendered@gmail.com I would love to talk to you about salvation in Christ. The Bible says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” Romans 3:23. We could do nothing on our own for salvation. Jesus came into this world, lived a perfect, sinless life, died on a cross for our sins, and took on the wrath of God on our behalf. He did not stay dead though, He rose three days later and defeated sin and death so we may have eternal life. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” When we accept the free gift of salvation that Jesus gives us, we receive eternal life with Him. This gives us hope in a broken world. This Christmas season I stand in awe of what my Savior did for me and the sacrifice He made. I pray that you have the best gift ever, a gift that provides hope and joy found only in Jesus.

My heart,

Sophie
