ew high school (advice pt2!)

Friends!

It is good to talk to ya! This week on Our Hearts Surrendered we continued out discussion with Kesleigh and Anika all about high school. Ew! High school is hard, and we have all learned sooo much so we are so excited to make two long episodes all about it. You can listen to both episodes on most podcast platforms or read Sophie's recap from last week!

This week's conversation started with an infamous topic, dating! We generally discussed a few key pieces of advice. Don't be in deep, spiritual community with your significant other because they should not be your accountability partner. Communication is critical. Have realistic expectations. Dating is cool! So in not dating! What's not cool, in my humble opinion, is being boyfriend/girlfriend for 6+ years, we agreed that we shouldn't start dating until getting married was a realistic goal. This is because as Christians we are called to date with the intention of marriage. BUT that doesn't mean a relationship that doesn't lead to marriage is a waste or a failure.

The next topic we discussed was identity. Sophie and I have another episode coming out about this in April (with a super cool guest) but honestly, this was the hardest part of my high school experience. If your identity is anywhere other than in the Lord, you will be lost and it will lead to a whole lot of hurt. We have been made new in Christ, we are only called to be servants of the Lord. That said, the only secure place for our identity is in the Lord doing what he called us to do.

Lastly we talked about realistic ways to share the gospel. There is so much good conversation about this so I would highly encourage you to simply listen to the episode, but I will say that actions speak louder than words. Love others intentionally and well. Reflect the Father. And invite people to everything your church has.

Check out the episode anywhere you listen to podcasts!
