Work Harder

Updated: Nov 23, 2019

Hey guys!

This week I was at my school for a total of fifty-seven and a half hours between Monday and Friday. On Saturday I had band for 14 hours. Today I woke up at 8:00, went to church, babysat for four and a half hours, came home, did homework, practiced for band, and now I'm writing this post before waking up at 5:45 tomorrow morning.

I'm not writing all of this for pity or sympathy. I'm writing this because all of this work is exhausting. But that doesn't mean it's not rewarding. I had band for a total of twenty-seven and a half hours this week. It's been like this for eight weeks. All of the hot days, dehydration, aching feet, headaches, stress, and sleepless nights make me wonder if it's worth it.

My band directors tell us to work harder every single morning, and it makes me question. How are we no working hard enough? Do they want to push it to twenty-eight hours a week? How much more could we possibly give them? At our contest this weekend we won prelims. Right before we performed, they said, "work harder."

So we did. Our band won first place and five out of the seven awards given. We worked harder than we ever had before. And it paid off. This concept of getting what you work for can be hit or miss. There are times where I work my tail off, and I still don't succeed.

There is one thing that will always follow the 'you get what you put in' rule. Your relationship with God will not fail if you are working hard. If you put in the time to read your Bible, you will know more about who God is. If you are intentional about praying for people, you will see lives transformed.

It's easy to feel like you're working hard, but if someone can look at you and tell you to work harder, you're not working hard enough.

Hey there. This is me telling you personally, work harder in your faith.

I know you may be working hard. Or you may not be working at all. Either way, work harder based off of where you are now. Let's say you don't even know where your Bible is, that's how long it's been since you've read it. Tomorrow I challenge you to find it and read one chapter. It can be Psalms 117, the shortest chapter in the bible. It doesn't matter because you're working harder than you were before.

I promise if you are putting effort into your relationship with God you will see results. You will become aware of his pursuit of you. Ask God for energy and you'll notice how even though you woke up earlier for cross country, or band, or swim, or cheer, or theater, or whatever you're involved in, you'll still be energized.

It's little things like that that are signs that God is doing big things in your life. I pray that you work harder. That you push yourself just a little bit more. I pray that you know your boundaries and act like Christ. Whether that means pushing yourself to rest or get motivated, either way, do it all for Christ.

Praying,

Addison Wimbish
