Worthy

"When I met Jesus I began to understand that I don't get to decide my worth. It has already been decided for me on the cross." -Mo Isom

Hey there!

Welcome to the final installment of our quotes series! I ended with Mo's quote in hopes of me being able to write this without having to pretend I don't struggle with this anymore. I figured, "Addison, you have a month to wake up every morning and remember your worth so that you practice what you preach on Broken Vessels" this did not work.

I'm not going to pretend I wake up and am excited about the day because I am worthy of all my amazing friends and their endless love and God's love and my amazing home. I usually wake up grumpy from sleep deprivation and not wanting to look presentable for school. I have found myself overwhelmed with emotion many times for the same reason. I don't feel worthy.

If you're like me and find your worth in your past mistakes and experiences, we're wrong. It doesn't matter what's happened in the past, who didn't like you in the past, who you were friends with, what you said, how you acted, or anything from the past. None of that decides whether or not you are worthy of God's love.

Only God can decide that, and He already has. He saw everything about your life, and He still chose to send his son to die. He knew that we would sin and he still loves us. He took one look at you, and he decided that you were worth the pain of him losing his son, the pain that he feels when you reject him, and the pain he feels when your own rejection makes you question your worth.

If you have a dog, you'll understand this. No matter how many times my dog tracks mud into the house, I still love her. At the moment I may be mad, but when I arrive home after school and see how happy she is to see me, all of my anger washes away. There's nothing she could do to convince me that she is not worthy of my love.

This is how God's love is for us. He already told us that we are worthy. We are worthy of His love because He decided so. It's unjust to decide you are worthy of someone's love if they haven't said so. God has said so. He made a final decision and with that decision, our worth was declared.

It's not up for argument. When you feel unworthy, the focus is on you. You are finding your worth in your sin, and pain, and rebellion, and fear. Your worth is not found in those things. You have been declared worthy because God is worthy. Worthiness has less to do with you and more to do with God.

We were bought at a price. A heavy price. The worth we carry is the life of the king of kings, Jesus. We were worth dying for to God. We are worth it every single day. The Holy Spirit is with us all the time just to prove that. Yes, our emotions make us doubt that, but emotions don't change God's mind.

Our worth is unchanging because God's worth is unchanging. He is always the same, he will always choose us and sacrifice his only son. We have to decide in advance. Before we hear the enemies lies saying we aren't worth Him. Everyone stumbles and needs reminders. It's still going to be hard to remember, but we are worth everything to God.

I pray that you remember where to find your worth. That you identify where it was coming from before, and you say goodbye. Leave it in the past and find joy in the fact that we were worth Jesus dying for. Don't let your fear make you forget.

Praying,

Addison Wimbish
